CCA is commonly used to extend the product life of timbers for up to 40+ years. CCA is Chrome Copper Arsenate and is widely used in fencing to prevent decay and deterioration caused by climate and biological agents.
This is particularly important for softer timbers, which are more prone to deterioration if untreated. CCA treated timber will last for decades in top-quality condition.
CCA treated timbers contain potentially toxic chemicals which may be released if these timbers are burned. If you’re replacing old CCA treated wood, best practice removal of old CCA treated timbers is to deposit timbers in landfills or recycle the materials.
